Local Halifax Talent, Jordan Hines AKA JOFO, is in the running for CBC Music SearchLight 2014.
CBC Music and CBC Radio One are looking for Canada's best new artist, and we want your help. Searchlight is a competition that connects artists with fans in their community and across the country. Vote for your favorite bands in your region and across the country. You can vote for 10 acts per region per day, to decide which acts make it to the regional finals. It's all leading to a grand prize, including $20,000 worth of music equipment from Yamaha Canada Music, a professional recording with CBC Music, and a spot on the bill with Tegan and Sara, and Spoon at the CBCMusic.ca Festival in Vancouver. Jofo hooked up with Change The Game Records and released his first album Sk8 Shoes in July of 2007. He has produced songs for Burton snowboarders and has had tracks featured in several snowboard films. He's played shows allover the US and Canada as well as places like England, France, Portugal, Japan, Germany and Austria with acts such as Cypress Hill, Lil John, NERD, Yelawolf, Too Short, Santigold, Redman, Wu-Tang Clan and Bad Brains. His upcoming sophomore album, also on CTG, Never Enough, strays a bit from the path left by Sk8 shoes and finds him focusing more on singing and bright melodies although he still has tracks with a more serious, hip-hop vibe to them. Never Enough will be a record that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, as the lyrics focus on topics everyone can relate to. UPDATE: As of May 6th Jofo was the #1 vote in Canada so he was the one YOU sent through to the finals. He's up against 3 other artists chosen by a celebrity panel. Winner announced on May 9th!!! UPDATE: Jofo wasn't chosen by CBC Music as their #1 but Canada sure did!!!! Voting him through over everyone one else, unfortunately it was the judges that chose the winner. His new 6 track album is up for download (donations only) check it out and hear why he's our #1.

This year, Hal-Con is hosting their fourth convention on November 8 to 10 at the World Trade and Convention Centre. Hal-Con has grown in size, attendance, attention and popularity with each event by participating in numerous charity and public events such as parades. This year they wanted to do something different by hosting their own parade. Emmett Blois and Jillian MacLaughlin our favorite players from Big Brother Canada drop in for some ink... When we saw Emmett's name online the day after his last appointment, I thought I was seeing things.... All I could think was "We didn't finish the white" If only we had known he would be on one of the biggest reality shows, Big Brother 1, just days after we last saw him. He went in and played an amazing game and in the end almost won the entire thing. Now that he's back to real life and out of the house he's been on the go with numerous children's' charities, festivals, parades, and appearances. He's been an amazing rep for the East Coast and we hope he keeps up all the great work. With some time on his hands we finally got him back in the chair for a quick session but only a quick one as he now has a new business on the go. River Wranglers welcomes you to enjoy Tidal Bore Rafting on the Bay of Fundy, home of the world's highest tides. Check out their Facebook page for more info and to book your spot today. After 4 long years away from Halifax we were surprised by the return of one of my favorite clients, Myles Sexton. When we last saw him he was heading to Toronto to continue with his modelling and fashion career. All must be going well because on top of the many fashion shows and magazine spreads, he'll be taking part in Paris Fashion week this year! With a few minutes of down time he came in to visit his SOS family and finally get Eldrick to finish his angel wings that we started so many years ago. I think these wings symbolize a incredible journey that we were so happy to take part in with you Myles!!!!! Remember the name, you'll soon be seeing him everywhere...... Emmett Blois ~ A.K.A. "The Milkman" Big Brother 1 Canada Contestant A dairy farmer from Gore, Hants County, N.S. and one of our favorite clients heads off to be one of the first ever Big Brother Canada contestants. As he neared the end of the game as part of the final 3, his sense of loyalty got in the way as he kept Gary in the house, that move sealed his fate and he was evicted. If we couldn't see Emmett win, I'm happy to say his showmance Jillian did. Congrats to Jillian - it was one of the best and craziest endings I've ever seen in any of the BB houses. We also think he's doing an amazing job representing Nova Scotia at all his events. Every weekend you can check him out at one of his scheduled activities; local parades, at a Relay for Life, or just trying to help local children in need. Click on his picture above and LIKE him on Facebook if you agree! He has an amazing sleeve - unfinished - by Kyle LeBlanc at Sin on Skin tattoo Studio. |
